It seems no one can say to Mr. Scorsese. And rightfully so. Between the recent Shutter Island and the upcoming 3D-fest Hugo Cabret, the auteur has worked with about half of the greatest-living actors. Add one more.

Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) has joined the cast of the film, which includes Jude Law, Ray Winstone, Christopher Lee, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Chloe Moretz and Asa Butterfield. Whoa.

Amalric will play (according to The Playlist, who we trust with our lives with, well, maybe not that much but we like them) a film restorer (sound familiar Marty?) who discovers long-lost films by George Melies (Kingsley), a revolutionary filmmaker from the early 1900s.

Melies was one of the first filmmakers to “color” his film and employ “special effects” to his projects, such as jump-cutting. His movies, usually around 10 minutes long, are essentially magic tricks that explore all that can be done through manipulating film in post-production.

Now that I’m reading about this film more closely I cannot wait. It sounds a bit like Scorsese’s Inglourious Basterds. And God does that sound like something I’d like to see.

Are you excited for Hugo Cabret? In 3D?
