The already stacked cast of Last Vegas just got a little bit better, as Deadline reports that Mary Steenburgen is the latest addition to a Jon Turteltaub-directed project which has already snagged such luminaries as Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline.
The movie, written by Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love) and Adam Brooks (Definitely, Maybe), stars Douglas as a soon-to-be-wed character who heads to the Sin City for a bachelor party before his impending nuptials. Steenburgen will play a lounge singer who attracts the affections of not only Billy but also Billy’s friend, Paddy (De Niro). Freeman and Kline play Billy and Paddy’s other friends, who join them in the city for the celebration/love triangle/other such situations.
I’ve been aware of Last Vegas for awhile now but haven’t really been all too interested in its development until I saw Steenburgen joined the cast. She’s one of my favorite actresses, always excelling in every role she nabs (some of the best: Parenthood, Back to the Future Part III, her stint on NBC’s 30 Rock) and rarely ever gets the credit she deserves.
I’m always happy to see her in something, and now that she’s brought my attention to Last Vegas, I must say — it does sound like an interesting movie. The writers behind the thing are solid, and Turteltaub directed 3 Ninjas & Cool Runnings back in the day, so the nostalgic side of me will forcefully remain optimistic. Either way, more Steenburgen on my screen is never something I’ll disagree with.
Production on Last Vegas begins this fall.
Does the cast of Last Vegas get you interested in seeing this movie? Anyone else think Mary Steenburgen be hailed as one of the better actresses of our time?
