There was a time it seemed very, very possible that The Hobbit was happening, and that Martin Freeman would be the star of the show. Then MGM started falling apart, and it seemed to be the exact opposite. Guillermo Del Toro dropped out and there was no money to be had.

Now, things may (not the word “may”) be looking up, as a revised offer has gone out to Freeman to accommodate his BBC series Sherlock, which had forced him to turn down the initial offer a thousand years ago.

Freeman has made moves (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Love Actually, etc.) but has yet to get that next big (international) break. This would, without doubt, be it. And, above all, he appears a good fit for Bilbo Baggins.

Do you agree? Would Freeman fit in the land of the hobbits?
