Collider had an exclusive interview with producer Mike De Luca and one of the main topic of discussion was the ever changing status of Ghost Rider 2. Well apparently De Luca stated that the new film is going to:

1. The tentative title is Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

2. Mark Steven Johnson is not directing the sequel.

3. Eva Mendes will not return as Roxanne Simpson.

4. Ghost Rider 2 (or Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance) will be a hard PG-13.

5. The film is going to take place in Europe.

6. De Luca is open to David Goyer directing the sequel but it all comes down to his very busy schedule.

7. Says the sequel will be like “pushing the reset button” on the franchise.

8. As you might expect from the success of Avatar, Ghost Rider 2 might be done in 3D.

9. Says Goyer has just delivered his updated outline to the studio.

10. And says Ghost Rider 2 could easily be in front of the cameras this year.

This is some major news. In case you are wondering, since it isn’t brought up, Nic Cage is still the lead. It is nice to see the studio (Sony in this case) giving some more creative freedom to the film makers. Clearly people have learned a lot in this post Dark Knight/Watchmen era of comic book films. Many complained about Nic Cage as Johnny Cage because of his age but I think he pulled it off with what he was forced to work with. My only real worry is who will get chosen to direct. We have learned throughout the years that when a comic book movie has some real talent behind it, like Nolan, Singer, Snyder, or Raimi, then you get an extremely well made film. I think if they continue down the path they are on, then this film is going to be worth every penny. No tentative release date has been set either.

What do you want to see from Ghost Rider 2?
