Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim are a comedy duo that is…an “acquired taste” to say the least. There are some people who will swear up and down that Tom Goes to the Mayor is a work of pure genius, while others will watch Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! and recoil in horror at the insanity being brought before their eyes. They aren’t staying on the small-screen for much longer, as Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie has begun filming in Los Angeles, California. And now they’ve got a distributor chomping at the bit to show it to the world.
ComingSoon reports that Magnolia Pictures have acquired the rights to distribute the movie. Magnolia is one of the bigger independent distributors in the business, and responsible (mostly through their genre arm Magnet Releasing) for some of the more interesting films that have come out in the past few years (a recent example being the 2010 low-budget monster flick Monsters). Seems like a perfect fit; they believe in crazier projects, and this will probably make those crazy projects look tame by comparison.
So, what is Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie even going to be about? Well, the simple premise is “Tim and Eric get a billion dollars to make their movie and all sorts of shenanigans arise.” Knowing them though, it’s liable to go off the stratosphere and possibly result in people fainting. I may be hyperbolic.
Their connections are quite impressive and the movie will feature Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Zach Galifianakis among others. No word on the release date, but we’ll let you know as time goes on.
Are you a Tim and Eric fan? Is Magnet the right distributor for this film?
