Highly anticipated Robert Rodriguez flick Machete will hit theaters September 3rd, in time for the lucrative Labor Day Weekend, Variety is reporting [via GATW]. The spin-off of the Tarantino/Rodriguez flop Grindhouse looks to earn a little more gate with the stalled release date.

Rodriguez is directing the film along with Ethan Maniquis. The legendary Danny Trejo will star as the title character, and I think you can deduce his motif from there. He leads a fairly star-studded cast including Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, and Steven Seagal. Billed as ‘Mexploitation,’ it appears the stars are coming out to pay homage on this one. Let’s see how it does September 3rd when it goes up against The American starring George Clooney.

Will you see Machete? Did you see Grindhouse?
