For American movie-goers, French auteur Luc Besson has disappeared – for the most part. At least as a director. His last English-speaking directorial effort was the somewhat disastrous The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc. And though he’s co-written nearly every single European action import from Unleashed to the Transporter trilogy, the words have never been the strong points of capers like From Paris With Love (which he also co-wrote).

Alas, Besson wants to delve into the brutal world of love, and wants someone to pay for it. The man’s currently shopping his untitled romance around town. He’s also trying to sell two other, more Besson-like screenplays as well (“the prison-in-space drama “The Lock Out” and a revenge movie with Zoe Saldana attached to star called ‘Colombiana.'”), but the love story’s the only one he’s attached to direct. He co-wrote the script with David Marconi (Enemy of the State, Live Free or Die Hard) and hopes to start shooting in September.
