Happy Valentine’s Day! The ensemble romantic comedy came out on top in its namesake weekend grossing an estimated $52.4 million. Covering costs in its debut weekend, Valentine’s Day beat out two other prominent debuts handily en route to a stellar showing.
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief was the runner up, grossing $31.1 million, whilst garnering exceptional reviews. The Wolfman took home bronze taking in $30.6 million.
Box office legend Avatar barely lost steam against fresh new foes, still pulling in $22 million in its 9th week and finishing fourth for the weekend and passing Dear John, which knocked it from the top last weekend. James Cameron finished $6 million behind his own 9th week record, Titanic. This brings Avatar‘s grand total to $659,605,000 domestically and $2.26 billion internationally.
