Comedians, assemble! With Woody Allen’s To Rome with Love, featuring Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig, Ellen Page and Allen himself, hitting theaters in just a few weeks the director is already rounding up a worthy ensemble for his follow-up.
We already know Baldwin will return for the untitled film, as well as Cate Blanchett, Bobby Cannavale, Sally Hawkins, Bradley Cooper and Michael Emerson. Variety now has news on the rest of the cast and it’s out of left field in likely the most amazing way possible. They report that comedians Louis C.K. and Andrew Dice Clay will join the film, alongside Peter Sarsgaard, Max Casella and Alden Ehrenreich.
No word on what characters they’ll play, but the brief plot reveal points to “a neurotic (Hawkins) who’s more fun and rough around the edges, [and] a sophisticated woman (Blanchett) who has her life together.” I’d honestly take a one-character Woody Allen film featuring only Louis C.K., as this combination seems perfect. The former is clearly inspired by the latter’s work, mostly recently evident in a season 3 teaser for his FX show, which paid homage to Allen’s classic Manhattan. Check it out below as we wait on more details on this enticing project.
Allen will return to New York, as well as San Francisco, to shoot the film.
What do you think about Louis C.K. in a Woody Allen film?
