UPDATE: Deadline comes through saying “sources were very definitive in denying the story, and were sure that Lerman was 100% not going to be Spidey and that he is not on the list of candidates being seriously considered.” Check back with TFS as the casting unfolds.
We reported over two months ago that Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief star Logan Lerman was in talks to play Spider-Man in 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb‘s new take on the superhero. It was quickly denied by his publicist but now thanks to HitFix the report is looking to to be true.
Their source says Lerman is “almost 100% locked” but not in contract negotiations for the role yet. Zodiac writer James Vanderbilt has penned the script in the “teen-friendly” take on the early days of the superhero.
HitFix also notes that Anton Yelchin, Jesse Eisenberg, Patrick Fugit and Johnny Simmons were all in the running as well. I think Lerman is a great choice, I loved him in Percy Jackson and Gamer. AICN’s Mr. Beaks said the running title for the new film is Spider-Man Begin Again. Take that with a grain of salt.
Spider-Man will start production this year for a July 3, 2012 release.
What do you think about Lerman as Spidey?
