Reports here and there are saying this and that and the third about bankrupt Halycon and their Terminator rights, which they are looking to sell off. Possibly to Lionsgate it would appear.
But most likely to Lionsgate? It’s hard to say merely based on the depths of Nikki Finke’s sources. She writes: “I hear Lionsgate will be named the stalking horse bidder in the bankruptcy sale of the Terminator franchise. Sources tell me it wasn’t a competitive auction.”
Heard from who? No matter I guess.
What one can take from the report and the speculative response from the online film community is that Lionsgate is shifting in their seats a bit in considering the rights and maybe a bit more. Names like Summit and Sony came and went. The Terminator franchise seems to have worn out its welcome (for now at least), so don’t be surprised if the bigger studios don’t make any moves.
It may just be Lionsgate’s bid to lose.
Do you care who ends up owning the rights? Does this franchise has anything left to give? Or take?
