Muppet news abounds these days, so I’ve compiled the latest updates for you in short order:

1.)   The cast – while still full of exciting actors/comedians – does NOT include Jane Lynch. Despite reports she’d be playing prison guard to Danny Trejo, “I’m not doing the Muppets movie,” Lynch told THR. “They haven’t asked me. I would do it if they asked me.” So, let’s hope they ask!

2.)   In other cast news, Playlist reveals some new celeb cameos that include Alan Arkin, Billy Crystal, and Jean Claude Van Damme! (Personally, I am hoping for a kickboxing match between JVCD and Miss Piggy.)

3.)   The first images of the set have surfaced at /Film, and show a dilapidated Muppet Studios. According to Cinema Blend, “the Disney team has retrofitted the Jim Henson Studios in Los Angeles as Muppet Studios, and though they’ve made the whole thing look run-down and basically abandoned, they’ve also kept the statue of Kermit the Frog in a top hat at the entrance.” I know it’s a set, but my inner child weeps.

4.)   The Daily Mail has some behind the scenes photos as well, mostly of Jason Segel and Amy Adams – but note there’s some movie-magic-killing puppetry on display – so keep excitable kids at bay.

And that’s all for now! As The Muppets is currently shooting, expect more spoiler heavy updates in the coming weeks.

The Muppets will hit theaters on Christmas Day of 2011.

Which cast cameo are you most excited about? What do you think of these behind-the-scenes images and what they portend?
