Update: Ben Stiller tweeted that they are not looking at Lady Gaga for a role. Carry on.
Although over a decade has passed since Zoolander had a short-lived theatrical run before quickly becoming a cult hit, it’s been just about a year since our update on its sequel, so like clockwork, here comes another. It’s been a long road to production for Ben Stiller‘s follow-up to his Sight & Sound-nominated comedy, but perhaps with some possible casting, things are finally heating up.
The Sun (so yes, take this with a grain of salt) is reporting that pop queen Lady Gaga is being courted to join the film, with a hefty price tag of just under $5 million. The entertainment icon is slowly stepping her way into Hollywood, with her first major role in Machete Kills being unveiled next year, as well as possibly recording some original songs for The Great Gatsby.
While it’s easy to dismiss the tabloid, don’t forget that Owen Wilson, who is set to return as a down-in-the-dumps Hansel, told MTV a few years ago that he’d love to see the star join the film. If the musician were to take part, she is said to actually be the leading lady, involved in a love triangle with Hansel and title character of Stiller, who is to return to direct. But if Gaga (who is at the “top of their wish-list” with her “talent and attitude — and an amazing sense of humour”) declines, reports indicate that models Kate Moss, Kate Upton, Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima are next on the list.
Production is currently aiming for early next year, but as always, it could easily be delayed.
Would you like to see Gaga take a lead role here?
