Columbia Pictures has now hired Kurt Wimmer to pen the remake of the 80’s classic Total Recall. Wimmer’s previous screen writing work includes The Thomas Crown Affair, Street Kings, and The Recruit. Wimmer also directed and wrote Equilibrium and Ultraviolet. There is still no director attached nor has release date set been set.
Like most I think a Total Recall remake is a bad idea. While I don’t love the original, I think its a really fun movie and not much of it comes off as outdated.To be honest, Kurt Wimmer obviously doesn’t have the best track record. Sure Equilibrium was good and The Thomas Crown Affair is a fun guilty pleasure, but everything else he has done is either mediocre or just plain bad. So this doesn’t change my mind at all of course, and let us not forget how bad Ultraviolet truly was.
