One of the most prominent Japanese actors, Ken Watanabe, who rose to fame in American cinema after The Last Samurai, looks to get on the other side of the camera, Pajiba is reporting.

He is reportedly going to direct the independent project called 442nd, about an all Japanese-American unit in World War II sent on daring missions in the European Theater, and became the most decorated regiment in American military history. Bill Gerber (Gran Torino) will produce the film.

Meanwhile, Watanabe is set to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the highly anticipated  Inception, which hits theaters July 16th.
