Oscar winner Kate Winslet, fresh off her award-winning performance in The Reader, has signed on to star in the upcoming HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce. The five-hour miniseries will adapt the James M. Cain novel of the same name [Variety].
HBO‘s latest entry in their long line of miniseries dramas is about a “single mother struggling to earn her daughter’s love during the Depression in middle-class Los Angeles.”
Todd Haynes (I’m Not There) is set to direct and will also write with Jon Raymond. Ilene Landress (The Sopranos) will produce the miniseries, set to film in April.
I like Kate Winslet’s work and this role could possibly pique my interest in the miniseries niche that I tend to ignore.
Is this the right move for Winslet? How do you feel about the HBO miniseries stronghold?
