UPDATE: Judd Apatow spoke with HitFix and revealed it is not a Knocked Up prequel or sequel. Read his response below, along with the original article.

Thanks Drew. It is neither. It is just a story from Pete and Debbie’s current life.

People really responded to their characters and problems. I felt like there was a lot of ground I could explore with them, so we’ll be shooting in July and will come out the following June.

There are some fun details yet to reveal but I will let them come out slowly. It’s more fun that way.

We heard in the fall that Judd Apatow‘s next directorial effort, an untitled comedy, is set for a June 1st, 2012 release date. No other details were given. We still don’t have many details, but Variety does report two actors that have joined.

Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd are returning in the same exact roles as husband and wife from Knocked Up, but that is all we known. In the 2007 comedy Mann played Katherine Heigl’s sister, but it is unknown if her, or Seth Rogen, will come back. While I loved 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up has been my favorite Apatow thus far. I thought it had more heart than his other works and glad to see him return to this universe. It will also be nice to see Rudd return after his How Do You Know misfire, which was hardly his fault.

The untitled comedy will shoot this summer.

Are you excited to see another film in the Knocked Up universe?
