We got word nearly two years ago that Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink was lining up a remake of Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman‘s 1984 horror/comedy/action cult classic The Toxic Avenger as one of his potential projects, but now with the director leaning towards another remake we all kind of forgot about the possibility. But a new twist has occurred, which comes with some surprising potential casting.
The unreliable It’s on the Grid updated that John Travolta was linked to a role in the film, but while many assumed it was the lead character, Variety has come in to confirm he is indeed considering the project, but in another supporting role. Don’t get your hopes though, while his specific role hasn’t been disclosed at the moment, the trade’s Jeff Sneider claims this project is “a long way off” considering his About Last Night remake, as well as a potential sequel to Bad Santa.
While this seems more of a dream possibility than anything else, Travolta has certainly been far from picky when it comes to his recent roles, with actioners like Savages, From Paris with Love and The Taking of Pelham 123 remake, mixed in with lighter fare like Old Dogs, Hairspray and Wild Hogs. Honestly, anything that seems like some halfway decent fun would be worthwhile at this point, but check back for updates as they arrive.
