The Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes is starting to pick up and the film is slowly coming together. First we reported that James Franco had joined the cast and now we get news from Cinematical that John Lithgow and Freida Pinto have joined the cast.

Being a pretty big Planet of the Apes fan I can say I’m pretty excited about all the casting choices so far. Franco is playing a scientist who experiments on apes while trying to find a cure for Alzhiemer’s and Lithgow will play his father.

Lithgow was amazing in his role on the TV show Dexter last season so I can’t wait to see what he does with this role. Pinto will take the female lead and may be a possible love interest for Franco’s character.

The film begins shooting this summer and will be a reboot. The story will act as a prequel and show us how the Apes evolved into what we saw them as in the original series. Tim Burton tried to reboot the series a while back and the film was panned by critics. I think I was one of the few people who enjoyed it. Either way, I’m a fan of the series and I’m interested to see how this one turns out.

What do you think? Do you like how the film is shaping up?
