It was reported earlier this year that cinematic savior Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna Productions was on board to finance the next film from director Spike Jonze and writer Charlie Kaufman, who brought us the masterpieces Being John Malkovich and Adaptation.
The film was said to be a political satire, which follows world leaders who converge to understand all the important events that affect the planet, from the price of oil to war. It is now reported by Twitch that Joaquin Phoenix is attached to star in the film, the actor who is also in Paul Thomas Anderson‘s currently shooting The Master (financed by Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna Productions as well).
After loving most work by Kaufman and Jonze, I can’t wait to see what they’ll do with this. Jonze recently directed the fantastic Arcade Fire short film Scenes from the Suburbs, which can be viewed here. With Ellison on a run, financing True Grit and the upcoming Wong Kar-Wai‘s The Grandmasters, Andrew Dominik‘s Cogan’s Trade and John Hillcoat‘s The Wettest County in the World, this could be another stellar notch in her belt.
The site also reports that Warner Brothers have boarded the project with plans to shoot in March 2012.
What do you think about Phoenix possibly starring in this duo’s next project?
