George Ratliff (Joshua) has quite a cast lined up for his next feature, Salvation Boulevard. Variety reports that Jennifer Connelly and Greg Kinnear are joining Marisa Tomei, Pierce Brosnan, Jim Gaffigan and Ed Harris in the upcoming comedy-thriller.
The film, co-written by Douglas Stone from the book by Larry Beinhart (Wag The Dog), “centers on a former Deadhead turned born-again Christian who finds himself on the run from fundamentalist members of his mega-church who will do anything to protect their larger-than-life pastor.”
Mandalay Vision, the newly formed indie wing of Mandalay Entertainment Group will produce. They have the Sundance hit, The Kids Are All Right, starring Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. Other upcoming titles include Vanishing on 7th Street, “an apocalyptic horror pic starring Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo” as well as Soul Surfer starring Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood.
George Ratliff directed a 2001 documentary titled Hell House, which follows a fundamentalist church’s annual take at a Haunted House. I can only bet some of his experience with the film will transfer to Salvation Boulevard. If you want to hear more about Hell Houses, check out this episode of NPR’s This American Life.
