Jeff Bridges is gearing up to do some ghostbusting. After Zach Galifianakis left RED and Flightplan director Robert Schwentke‘s next project, Universal has tapped the one and only Dude to star alongside Ryan Reynolds in R.I.P.D., Deadline reports. The comedian, who has The Hangover Part II coming later this year, left reportedly due to Reynolds up in the air schedule. The actor has Safe House currently filming and looking to start Deadpool production and possible Green Lantern sequels after.
R.I.P.D. is adapted by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (Clash of the Titans, Aeon Flux) and based on Peter Lenkov‘s (24, Demolition Man) 2000 Dark Horse comic. It tells the story of the Rest In Peace Department, the afterlife’s arm of the law. The central character of the comic book is Nick Cruz (Reynolds), a recently-murdered police officer who has joined the R.I.P.D. to find out the identity of his killer and make his way into heaven. Unfortunately that isn’t so straightforward and Cruz finds himself with a jaded ex-gunslinger (possibly Bridges) for a partner while working for the man upstairs, pursuing all kinds of demonic creatures.
One nearly expected Bridges to show up in Schwentke’s RED last year. He would have fit in alongside the likes of Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Helen Mirren. This sounds like a slightly more promising project, especially due to the partnership of Reynolds and Bridges.
What do you think about this buddy cop duo?
