We’ve seen Jeff Bridges‘ varied career ever since it started all the way back in the 1950’s and whether he is The Dude or Otis Blake, the actor hasn’t had any problem embodying his characters. Universal has taken note, as Vulture reports that the Oscar-winning actor has just been offered the lead role in their comedy Dirty Grandpa.
John Phillips, who is currently writing the sequel to Bad Santa, has written the script for the project, which can give us some insight on just the type of dirty grandpa Bridges will be. The film “follows a soon-to-be-married uptight grandson who is tricked into escorting his lascivious and recently widowed former Army general of a grandfather to spring break in Florida.”
If Bridges isn’t willing to take the plunge for the raunchy character, Universal has plans to approach Michael Douglas for the role. I can surely see the appeal for Bridges, with his various quirky roles of the years, but Douglas as a dirty grandpa just doesn’t sit too well with me. Over his lengthly career, he has gravitated towards more serious roles that haven’t really allowed him to get rude and crude. So, let’s hope Bridges takes it and if not, Douglas doesn’t seem like a bad back-up, even if the former is more fitting.
