If anyone can make rom-com’s cool again, Jason Segel can. The man behind and in-front of the cameras on Forgetting Sarah Marshall, spoke to EW about the movie he’s currently writing, Five-Year Engagement, and explained that he wants to make it a classic.
“It is a romantic comedy. Our goal is Annie Hall or When Harry Met Sally and if we get within their stratosphere of substance, we will be happy. It really dissects relationships and aims to show how complicated they are over a long period of time. This is a five-year period and in that time things change and morph and the power dynamic shifts and people wane and eyes wonder and you question everything and this movie is about that in a funny way, I hope.”
While this production is still only in the rumour stage, mainly surrounding Emily Blunt being offered the lead female role, what is confirmed is Get Him to the Greek and FSM director Nicholas Stoller is to helm the project, which starts shooting in April 2011.
Could Jason Segel be the man to revive the romantic comedy genre?
