I have no idea what the movie is going to be about, but I already love it; The Hollywood Reporter broke the story today that Jason Segel is attached to play the lead in Dreamworks’ Undercover Cop. The comedy, which is currently being written by Jason Micallef, is based off a true story of a New Jersey cop that finds himself neck deep in the Garden State’s underground crime world.

Micallef’s last script, Butter, made the 2008 edition of the Black List of the best un-produced screenplays in Hollywood and has become an actual movie that will release later this year starring Hugh Jackman and Olivia Wilde. Steve Zaillian is producing under his Film Rites company (and if his name looks familiar, he’s now the fifth scribe attempting to turn the next Jack Ryan movie into some watchable). Oh, and Segel has some movie about puppets or whatever coming out in November. I forget the name.

There is very little information on this as you can tell, but I’m still pretty excited about the idea of Jason Segel getting to riff on the 80’s, so I had to share it with you and get the excitement rolling. Also, I guarantee we’ll get a giant goofy mustache at some point in this movie. It’s the 80’s, there’s got to be a “Selleck” involved somewhere.

I know cop-related stuff is overdone nowadays, but any excitement over Undercover Cop? Or are you going to be that person who tries to be anti-Segel before The Muppets overexposes him to the masses?
