Jason Flemyng is a Matthew Vaughn regular, having appeared in Layer Cake, Stardust, and Kick-Ass (as well as the Vaughn produced Guy Ritchie films, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch). It will come as no surprise, then, that the English actor has been cast in Vaughn’s next movie, X-Men: First Class.
“Matthew showed me my costume just the other day,” Flemyng told Empire at Movie-Con today. “Now I swore I’d never be in heavy make-up again, but this role is going to involve it. But at least they said, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll add the tail in post’. I am Azazel, and I can teleport by waving my arms [gestures like a cross between a flamenco dancer and a Bollywood star].”
If you aren’t a huge Marvel fan, you probably don’t know that Azazel, a red, teleporting being from another dimension, is Nightcrawler’s biological father. He can only return to Earth by impregnating women there, linking his children to his dimension. He eventually puts the moves on blue shapeshifter Mystique.
And we all know where that got us.
X-Men: First Class tells the story of friends Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr before they became enemies known as Professor X and Magneto. It is currently slated for a June 3, 2011 release.
