Since his brilliant run on Arrested Development, Jason Bateman seems to be the go-to guy for comedies. Just this year he has Paul, Horrible Bosses, and The Change-Up. After his work with Universal on the upcoming August comedy, Deadline reports he is in talks to join another.

After teaming up in the utterly terrible Couple’s Retreat, Bateman is looking to join Vince Vaughn in The Insane Laws, from screenwriter Jeremy Garelick. After working Vaughn on The Break-Up, Garelick will make this film his directorial debut. Bateman and Vaughn will play “longtime best friends, who’ve shared everything, from college to the time both got married and had kids at the same time. Cut to when those kids are away at college, and, unbeknownst to their parents, falling in love. The best friend relationship is sorely tested when the daughter of Vaughn’s character gets pregnant.”

This is giving me flashbacks of the Vaughn-starrer The Dilemma earlier this year, which Ron Howard ineffectively tried to mix comedy and drama. He is no Judd Apatow, and Garelick doesn’t seem to be either after The Break-Up. I quite enjoy both actors, and hope they can live up to what looks to be a dramatic plot.

The Change-Up hits theaters August 5th, while The Insane Laws is looking to begin production this fall.

What do you think about this plot and Vaughn and Bateman re-teaming?
