After the highly anticipated trailer for X-Men: First Class debuted to mostly positive reactions across the internet, all things seemed to be looking up for the Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Stardust) directed prequel. One of the film’s stars, however, has expressed concern over the tight schedule afforded to the tentpole picture. January Jones (of TV’s Mad Men), who plays Emma Frost in the superhero film, told Canadian website Canoe that it was “unrealistic” to attempt to pull off such a massive project during the time allotted by the June 3rd release date.

Check out her full statement below:

“Poor (director) Matthew Vaughn is going to have to edit it in three days,” Jones joked. “That’s been a blast. We’ve all had so much fun making that movie. I think it was unrealistic for them to think they were going to make such a huge movie in whatever we had — two months or something. So of course we went over (schedule). I think I have a couple more days to shoot…  We’re almost done. The fact we’ve had to push the wrap date but they haven’t moved the release date is really interesting to me. I guess they must know what they’re doing. I have a lot of faith in Matthew as a director and an editor; I think his movies are great. And I think they’ve been cutting as we’ve been going. We should be fine.” – IndieWire (via Canoe)

It’s not uncommon for a film to race against the deadline like this but it can often have detrimental effects on the overall quality of a film. We’ve seen what a rushed X-Men film can look like before (The Last Stand, anyone?) but there may still be hope for this film. Whatever the case may be, I’m just hoping for another good X-Men film down the line.

X-Men: First Class will hit theaters June 3rd, 2011.
