Cashing in on the critical (but not quite financial) success of Bright Star, director Jane Campion revealed to an Australian newspaper, The Australian, that she will be tackling television once again with a six-hour BBC mini series. No further details of this project have been released as yet but it is known that she will be collaborating with the writer of her debut feature, Sweetie, Gerard Lee.

This change comes as a result of Campion becoming increasingly un-enthused by the conservatism of film. Highlighting “the exciting stuff being done on HBO” as an example of the freedom she wants to explore through television, it could be presumed that what Campion has in mind is something more outlandish than her previous work. In any case, after seeing the quality of Bright Star, news of this mini-series will certainly be something to keep an eye on.
