The fifth installment of the never-ending and inappropriately titled Final Destination series now has a director tied to it. Variety [via FirstShowing] is reporting that Steven Quale will direct the film for Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema. Quale has done extensive work with James Cameron over the years and is considered to be his protege.
The release date is August 26, 2011. The script is being penned by Eric Heisserer, who also redid A Nightmare on Elm Street. The film has the same producers as the rest of the franchise: Craig Perry and Warren Zide.
I haven’t seen numbers 2-4 because I saw the first. It was an incredibly trite thriller which leaves me little reason to believe the sequels have any originality. In their defense, Quale is a technician by trade, which might means quality special effects. We will see if he is able to redeem the franchise.
What do you think of this franchise? Should it stop?
