Star-on-the-rise Jason Segel and reliable character actor John Michael Higgins are in talks to star in Jake Kasdan’s Bad Teacher, also starring Cameron Diaz from the Blacklist-ed screenplay by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (Year One, the upcoming Ghostbusters 3).

Diaz will play “a foul-mouthed, conniving seventh-grade teacher who is dumped by her sugar daddy, and begins to woo the school’s model teacher, and starts a bitter rivalry with his girlfriend, her squeaky-clean colleague Amy Squirrel” [/Film]

Segel will play the the gym teacher and Higgins the principal of the school. Bradley Cooper’s also been floating around the film, but there’s no details. Could he possibly be playing the model teacher?

This is a nice step for Diaz, who’s been stretching her acting palette lately in strange studio fare like The Box and more standard, challenging acting showcases like My Sister’s Keeper.

Kasdan has four solid films to his name (Zero Effect, Orange County, The TV Set, and Walk Hard) and this has all the makings of a fifth. The comedy looks to be right up his alley.

What do you think of this cast? Are you excited for Bad Teacher?
