unboundcaptives

Variety reports Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz, and Robert Pattison will star in a period drama titled Unbound Captives. The film will be the directorial debut of Madeleine Stowe, who wrote the script with her husband Brain Benben in the earlier 90’s. Production will start at the end of the year with the great cinematographer John Toll (The Thin Red Line, The Last Samurai) on board. Hyde Park Entertainment is set to produce.

Stowe originally wanted to star in the film. Ridley Scott was also going to direct Russell Crowe in a $5 million offer from Fox at one point. Looks like Stowe came to her senses once she found a great cast.

Plot: Weisz will play a woman whose husband is killed and her two children kidnapped by a Comanche war party in 1859. She is later rescued by a frontiersman, to be played by Jackman. Pattinson will play the son.

This looks like some bland Oscar bait, but the cast is good and the cinematographer is great. Will be interesting to see what Stowe can do with her first film.
