Variety has confirmed LatinoReview’s rumor that Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) has signed on to play Freddy Krueger in Platinum Dunes’ A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. BloodyDisgusting has also learned that Kyle Gallner (The Haunting In Connecticut) is in final talks to play Quentin, Johnny Depp’s character in the original film. A Nightmare on Elm Street is currently set for April 16th, 2010.
To me, this is both good news and bad news. I think Haley will make a great Freddy Krueger, but I would rather see him doing something better then this. What are the odds of this actually being a good movie? Platinum Dunes does not have the best track record, quality wise, with these reboots. The only one of there films I have enjoyed was there reboot Friday the 13th, which was not a good movie by any means, but mildly entertaining. Haley is on a great roll with Little Children and Watchmen, and I would hate to see him get stuck in a crap series.
