Our favorite terrifying mother figure of last year, Jacki Weaver (Oscar-nominated actress from Animal Kingdom), has found a new (and quite different) project. Deadline reports she will join a comedy, Nicholas Stoller‘s Five Year Engagement. This marks the third feature for the director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To Greek.

Co-written by and starring Jason Segel, Universal Pictures and producer Judd Apatow have already assembled an impressive cast that includes Emily Blunt, Alison Brie, Chris Pratt, Rhys Ifans, Lauren Weedman, and the newly added Kevin Hart. The film follows “the ups and downs of an engaged couple en route to the altar.” Community star Alison Brie will don a British accent and play younger sister to Blunt’s character. I suspect Weaver will play one of the parents of our couple and comically play off of her matriarchal role in Animal Kingdom.

Five Year Engagement begins production this spring and expect to see it in theaters by 2012.

What do you think of Weaver joining a comedy? Are you excited for Stoller’s next?
