We finally got some solid news on J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek 2 sequel, right before the Thanksgiving break last week. A release date was set and we know it will be shot in 3D. Benicio del Toro is almost locked to play the villain that “will be familiar to Trekkies” and now Variety is reporting on another cast member.
Abrams has selected Alice Eve to join the returning cast of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and more. The role of the She’s Out of My League and Entourage actress is currently unknown, but is said to be “new to the cannon.” Eve beat out other contenders, who included Hayley Atwell (who beat her for the Captain America: The First Avenger female lead) and Teresa Palmer.
New casting isn’t complete for the film scripted by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof, as Variety reports they have “just one more major role left to cast” and could be a supporting villain next to del Toro. Eve has the necessary pep for the Star Trek universe (at least what Abrams has created) and I look forward to seeing her in Edgar Allen Poe thriller The Raven and the one-room drama ATM next year. She’ll also have a part in Men In Black III next spring.
Star Trek 2 hits theaters May 17th, 2013 in 3D.
What do you think about Eve joining the film?
