Reports are beginning to surface that The Fast and the Furious series is about the be injected with new blood in the form of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The resilient franchise, which began in 2001, has undergone various cast shake up’s but the original cast reunited for last year’s Fast and Furious.
The former pro-wrestler would be taking on a role as a police officer in the 5th film in the fast paced series and would find him opposite fellow action star Vin Diesel. Series vet Paul Walker is also expected to return for the upcoming installment.
The pairing of Johnson and Diesel is an exciting move as the two stars have both tread similar territory for the last decade in both action and comedy films. This film will also serve as a return to the genre that made Johnson a film star as he hasn’t made a straightforward action film since 2005’s Doom.
The film, tentatively titled Fast Five, will be directed once again by Justin Lin and is aiming for a June 10th, 2011 release date.
