One of the hardest working actors since breaking out in Stanley Kubrick‘s A Clockwork Orange many decades ago, there seems to be no caliber of project Malcolm McDowell won’t touch. Mostly relegating himself to the small-scale horror and thriller genre as of late, we’ve now got the first look at his latest film, Sanitarium.
Set for a festival debut this spring, the film is a horror anthology but instead of the more expansive recent offerings like V/H/S and The ABCs Of Death, this one takes on just three different stories. From directors Bryan Ramirez, Kerry Valderrama and Bryan Oritz, each of the horror tales features a patient at an insane asylum. With Pop Pistol‘s Coyote in the background, check out the trailer below (via The Playlist) for the film also starring Robert Englund, Lacey Chabert, Lou Diamond Phillips and John Glover.
The always frightening Malcom McDowell stars as Dr. Stenson, head psychiatrist presiding over a sanitarium where hardly anyone ever gets well. In tales of three of the sanitarium’s most disturbed patients, we soon see why. Robert Englund, John Glover, Jeremy Ray Valdez (La Mission) and Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba) star in this triptych anthology from Texas filmmakers Bryan Ramirez, Kerry Valderrama and Bryan Oritz. Superlatively shot, this creepy “Tales of the Crypt” style chiller reminds of us how the mind is sometimes humanity’s most powerful weapon. And beware the progressive shift in the ill, from the sane to the insane…darkness descends.
Sanitarium premieres on March 1st at Miami International Film Festival.
