Ellen Page, Rain Wilson in Super

Super made a nice impression at this year’s Comic-Con, even making my own 15 films from Comic-Con to be excited for list. It recently made an even bigger impression at the Toronto film festival with its premiere. The film received a huge response from Midnight Madness and just two days later, it’s landed a distributer. IFC picked it up for seven figures, beating out Magnolia and a few other interested buyers. The release plans aren’t known yet, but bet on later this year or early next year.

Many critics from the fest aren’t totally in love with James Gunn’s indie hard-R super hero take. It’s supposedly tonally and structurally all over the place, but I’ve yet to hear a completely negative reaction yet. Plenty of people– including myself– have been excited for Gunn’s return to the big screen ever since the excellent Slither, and thankfully, it looks like we wont have to wait much longer.

And for those interested in a first look at Super head over to Coming Soon.net, who have an exclusive (and awesome) clip from the film.
