After turning out an astounding break-out performance in The Wire, Idris Elba hasn’t exactly live up to that epic series. He has starred in Obsessed, The Losers and Takers, which comes out this month. His brief stint in The Office was fun and I hope he delivers in Thor but now Deadline reports he has one of his first leading man roles.

He will “play Dr. Alex Cross in Cross, a new installment of James Patterson‘s bestselling murder mystery series that will be directed by David Twohy.” Twohy is known for the Riddick series and most recently directed A Perfect Getaway, which I thought was a lot of fun.

Morgan Freeman played the same role in “1997’s Kiss the Girls and 2001’s Along Came A Spider. In the novel, Cross tracks a serial rapist who may have murdered his pregnant wife years before.”

Cross begins production this spring.

Did you enjoy Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider? Are you looking forward to Elba and Twohy working together?
