Remember Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief? It was the movie about the kid who turns out to be a demigod, and has to do some Hero’s Journey stuff. No? Me neither. However, in spite of that cognitive gap, the powers that be have dictated that a sequel shall be made, thus cementing this franchise as the most ardent pretender to the youth-oriented-fantasy throne, recently abdicated by Harry Potter.
Casting should be just about done here, but there’s still a little more. Thus, we have news coming out of Variety that tells us that Leven Rambin has been cast along side Logan Lerman to lead the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters. Lerman (3:10 to Yuma, The Three Musketeers) is returning to the lead role of Percy Jackson. Rambin, meanwhile, fresh off of her turn as the tribute Glimmer in The Hunger Games, is playing Clarisse, the daughter of god of war Ares. Clarisse is described as “skilled at battle and a perfectionist” which should prove a nice dramatic foil.
This newest installment will be directed by Thor Freudenthal, previously of Diary of a Whimpy Kid. At current Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters is in pre-production, and is slated for release March 26th, 2013.
So are you excited to return to the world of The Olympians or are you planning on giving this one a pass?
