Vulgar auteurist defenders, gather around. The first trailer has arrived for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. The supposedly last film in a series helmed by director Paul W.S. Anderson, The Final Chapter begins immediately after the events of the previous installment, Resident Evil: Retribution, with the fate of humanity stripping away to its final shreds in Washington D.C. There, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only remaining survivor against the swarming mass of undead and must return to the source of all this chaos: Raccoon City, where the evil Umbrella Corporation has hatched a plan to wipe the survivors out for good, forcing Alice to team up with unlikely friends and battle hordes of foul creatures as she makes one final push in the name of humanity.
We’ve seen “final chapters” before which somehow, despite their insistence, still lead to other sequels. Meaning, whether or not this is the end for Alice and the gang is unclear, but this will surely be the last movie in the series for quite some time. So soak it up now, folks because there are no other films out there with troves of undead hordes, motorcycles, and slo-mo shots of people shooting guns.
See the trailer below (via IGN), along with the posters, for the film that also stars Ali Larter, Iain Glen, Shawn Roberts, and Ruby Rose.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter opens in the U.S. on January 27th.
