Director Rob Zombie’s  Halloween franchise seems to be moving along too quickly for its own good.  Hoping to cash in on the success of My Bloody Valentine 3D,  the announcement for Halloween 3D was made soon after the opening of its 2D counterpart and set for a Summer 2010 release.   If you’re thinking that’s a little too soon, the Weinstein Company agrees with you.  The announcement was made earlier this week that the project would be temporarily suspended because “Bob just felt it was rushing too fast”, although this is most likely a cover for a budget crisis, a reaction to recent layoffs or the “meager” profits of Halloween II.

Indeed, Halloween II‘s release seems to have jumped the gun..er…butcher knife.  Although making $32M, the movie fell short of profit expectations.  Perhaps moviegoers were tired of Rob Zombie’s gorefests and went to see Final Destination 3D instead, or perhaps, like me, they expected the newest Halloween to come out on Halloween (silly me).  I’m not the only one who saw the holiday to make more profits; Halloween II will be re-released in select theaters October 31st for special midnight screenings.

Would you watch a scary movie on Halloween to get in the holiday spirit?
