With a voice quite unlike anyone else in filmmaking, it’s been a few years since writer-director Todd Solondz made a feature, but we can finally welcome him back soon. Once again, Megan Ellison and her Annapurna company have stepped up to help out, getting behind the next film from the director, along with his Happiness collaborators, Christine Vachon‘s Killer Films.
According to THR, the film, titled Weiner-Dog, will be partially inspired by his break-out hit, the Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Welcome to the Dollhouse. The ensemble dramedy will follow several characters “who find their life inspired or changed by one particular dachshund, who seems to be spreading comfort and joy.” One of the stories is said to be centered on Dawn Weiner, the character originally played by Heather Matarazzo but will now be taken over by Greta Gerwig. Also in talks to come on board is Julie Delpy, but there’s no word yet on what her character will be.
Hopefully production begins next year and stay tuned as more details arrive. In the meantime, check out the trailer for Welcome to the Dollhouse below and if you’re looking to watch it, the film can be streamed on Amazon.
