Marc Guggenheim (The Practice) revealed to Scifiwriter.com that he just completed a new draft of the upcoming Green Lantern film adaption. The DC Comics adaption of the comic series is set to be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and is slated for a June 17, 2011 release. Regarding the rumors that Chris Pine (Star Trek) or Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) were going to play the superhero Guggenheim said that both are untrue. He mentioned a lot of actors are reading the scripts with no one commited yet. He also stated that he is trying to make an adaption that is a “loving and respectful approach.” Guggenheim couldn’t reveal much more than on the film except that “there’s no desire on anyone’s part to completely change the character and just call this other character Green Lantern and try to … draft off the name recognition.”

It is interesting that they haven’t found a lead yet with all the rumors and the huge budget. I am really excited to see this film finally go into production. Hopefully we will see more specific updates soon.

How do you feel about this latest addition to the DC Comic film library?
