Ghostbusters 3 seems to have become the Duke Nukem Forever of the movie world. There has been constant chatter about a third one entering development, scripts being written, and even plots being discussed, nothing have ever truly materialized. However, there may finally be a ray (no pun intended) of hope; Cinema Blend via Prod Week confirms an earlier report from Film Drunk that Sony is planning for Ghostbusters 3 to start production in May of next year. Sony Pictures is keen on getting the film started then, and if it actually goes forth, that means we could finally have the long awaited third movie in theaters in the Summer of 2012 to directly compete against The Avengers and other possible big name films.
As with always, take this with a grain of salt. I have heard the rumors of a third movie for nearly half a decade, but Bill Murray‘s reluctance to return to the franchise has stalled any progress. Although Murray showed up in full Venkman garb at this year’s Scream Awards, I still don’t know if that means he’s definitely on board; knowing how the man operates, it seems more plausible he did it just to stir fanboy glee and because he thought it’d be funny. Murray’s lambasted the project many times before, and since there hasn’t been much progress in the screenplay realm, I doubt he’s had a change of heart. However, one can dream am I right?
So what do you think Film Stagers? Is Ghostbusters 3 actually happening this time, or is this just wishful thinking?
