clown

While we can’t imagine many more accomplished or haunting horror features to arrive this year than the one we received this past week, we’ll be seeing many more entries into the genre. Today we have a preview of a trio of them. First up, based a fake trailer, we have a new trailer for the Eli Roth-produced Clown. Directed by Jon Watts, the film stars Andy Powers as a father who puts on a clown costume for his son’s birthday, but a curse means he can’t take it off and, well, things go downhill from there. Also starring Laura Allen and Peter Stormare, it’ll be getting an international release on Blu-ray soon, but no word yet on a U.S. theatrical bow.

Following that, we have the first trailer for the next horror film from Oculus director Mike Flanagan, Before I Wake. Starring Kate Bosworth, Thomas Jane, Annabeth Gish, Dash Mihok and Jacob Tremblay, it’ll open on May 8th and follows a boy whose nightmares come to reality. Lastly, we have Leigh Whannell‘s Insidious: Chapter 3, which opens on June 5th and takes the prequel route, starring Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Whannell. Check out all the trailers below along with official synopses.

It’s Jack’s 10th birthday, but the clown has cancelled. His dad, Kent, finds an old clown suit in the attic and saves the party. But after the party is over, Kent has a problem… the suit won’t come off. What starts as a joke quickly turns into a hellish nightmare. Kent can feel himself changing, and his desperate attempts to free himself just leave him in agonizing pain.

As the suit takes hold of his body, Kent slowly endures a brutal transformation. As he changes, an uncontrollable hunger begins to consume him, an overwhelming and insatiable hunger… for children.

In this intense and heart pounding supernatural thriller, Jessie (Kate Bosworth) and Mark (Thomas Jane) decide to take in a sweet and loving 8-year-old boy, Cody.  Unbeknownst to them, Cody is terrified of falling asleep. At first, they assume his previous unstable homes caused his aversion to sleep, but soon discover why:  Cody’s dreams manifest in reality as he sleeps.  In one moment they experience the incredible wonder of Cody’s imagination, and in the next, the horrific nature of his night terrors. To save their new family, Jessie and Mark embark on a dangerous hunt to uncover the truth behind Cody’s nightmares.

The newest chapter in the terrifying horror series is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.
