Get Low, the indie about an old eccentric (Robert Duvall) who plans to attend his own funeral party, looks to be the Crazy Heart of this year – an acting/musical showcase, if not too much more. Here’s a neater, tidier trailer for the film (Yahoo via First Showing):

Duvall certainly shines in these 2 and a half minutes. And Murray doesn’t too badly either. And let’s not forget Sissy Spacek, who is just as beautiful as ever. It’s kind of amazing actually. The film is written and directed by Aaron Schneider

Here’s the IMDB logline:

“A movie spun out of equal parts folk tale, fable and real-life legend about the mysterious, 1930s Tennessee hermit who famously threw his own rollicking funeral party… while he was still alive.”

Just below is the official poster:

Certainly as good a hook as any these days. Duvall hasn’t been Academy Awards-nominated in over a decade (A Civil Action was his last nom) and it’s been over 25 years since he won his only Oscar for Tender Mercies. It just may be his time…again.

Get Low opens July 30th in limited release.
