Kiss co-founder Gene Simmons secured his place in music and reality TV. Now the blood-spitting rock star is trying his hand at film, starting with a modern take on mythology.
Simmons, who succeeded on the small screen with his show Gene Simmons Family Jewels, will team with producer Scott Steindorff (The Lincoln Lawyer) to make a sci-fi version of the Greek tale Icarus. The cautionary story follows the titular character, who flies out of Crete, only to fall into the sea and drown after his wings of wax and feathers melt under the heat of the sun. Based on a concept by Simmons, the new film will center around “two characters, one the hunter and the other hunted.” The rocker had small roles in features such as The New Guy and Extract, but this is his first big screen outing from a creative side. Steindorff – who is producing through his Scott Pictures banner – is now scouting writers for the project.
