According to THR, Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) is in talks to direct a film adaptation of the novel The Cruelest Miles: The Heroic Story of Dogs and Men in a Race Against an Epidemic which was written by Gay and Laney Salisbury.
The book is about a true story which centers on a 674-mile journey undertaken by 20 men and 200 dogs who rushed a diphtheria antidote to Nome, Alaska, in 1925.
Even though Gavin Hood has directed films such as Rendition and Tsotsi, the only film I’ve seen by him is X-Men Origins:Wolverine, which I have to agree with the masses and call it a mess. I know that his prior films have garnered some praise, but I have no idea how he will handle this tale which could easily go the route of many Disney films (I’m looking at you Eight Below) and pay too much attention to how cute the dogs are rather than the actual suspense of will they make it?
What are your thoughts on Gavin Hood possibly directing this film?
