Following his stellar world-building in his ultra low-budget Monsters, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Gareth Edwards‘ next film. We’ve known for quite some time it will be a new take on Godzilla, one that sees the director team with a major studio, Warner Bros. and their frequent collaboraters Legendary Pictures. But it isn’t until now that we know precisely when we’ll see it.
According to press release, the studio has set a May 16th, 2014 release date for the film, which is written by David Callaham (The Expendables), David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman Begins) and Max Borensetein (The Seventh Son). The studio also plans a 3D presentation, but no mention if it’ll be shot in that format.
As we heard from Comic-Con footage, Edwards’ is going with a darker take with destroyed landscapes evoking an almost 9/11 feel. Not much else was revealed, aside from the teaser poster to the right, but we know the film will now compete with other major 2014 titles such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Robopocalypse, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Transformers 4, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy, Pixar’s Good Dinosaur and much more. Yeah, it’s going to be another packed summer.
Are you looking forward to Godzilla? Were you a fan of Monsters?
